Strategy

Our dedication to preserving our planet’s natural resources is not only a promise – it’s an area of consistent leadership in the hospitality industry. We continuously evolve initiatives in our six key areas of focus to address emerging trends, incorporate the latest technologies and environmental practices, and foster even greater environmental stewardship.
  • LOW-CARBON TRANSITION
    ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Design buildings that conserve electricity and deploy new technologies to reduce energy consumption during ongoing operations
    RENEWABLE ENERGY
Seek out renewable energy solutions, including on-site solar thermal and solar photovoltaic systems and renewable energy credits
    TRANSPORTATION
Transition guest shuttle buses to electric and clean-fuel sources and leverage carbon offsets for hard-to-decarbonize air and ferry travel
  • WASTE
    FOOD WASTE
Tackle one of our largest waste streams through prevention, donation and diversion
    CONSTRUCTION WASTE
Responsibly handle construction waste from new developments, remodels and renovations
    OPERATIONAL WASTE
Recycle wherever possible and find opportunities to reduce waste generation
  • MATERIALS AND RESOURCES
    RESPONSIBLE SOURCING
Integrate sustainability into our properties' total life cycles by using environmentally preferred materials, products and services
    PLASTIC AND PACKAGING
Replace single-use products and packaging with sustainable alternatives and transition to reuse models where possible
  • WATER STEWARDSHIP
    WATER EFFICIENCY
Upgrade fixtures and systems, enact water conservation policies and encourage sensible water usage
    WATER REUSE
Increase use of non-potable water for landscaping, restrooms, cooling towers and other uses
    ECOSYSTEMS
Partner with regional water champions to reinvigorate biodiverse ecosystems, increase resiliency, engage communities and leverage water technologies

Targets

Sands ECO360 is aligned with internationally recognized frameworks such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a specific focus on the objectives most relevant to our operations in the areas of energy, water and waste.

SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

Water is integral to the experience we provide for our guests, and we balance luxury with responsibility. We utilize nonpotable water sources whenever possible to cool our towers and for landscaping and fountains. We also continually explore innovative water technologies and implement water conservation procedures.

SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

Our resorts comprise millions of square feet in building space, requiring energy to heat, cool and operate. Since 2016, we have implemented more than 250 projects to reduce electricity and natural gas consumption as well as greenhouse gas emissions.

SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

Every day, thousands of visitors enjoy the benefits of our resorts. By diligently targeting ways to eliminate waste, reuse, replace and recycle, we proactively manage our company’s waste output.

SDG 14: Life Below Water

From protecting waterways near our resorts to prioritizing procurement of sustainable seafood options, we are focused on preserving water ecosystems through region-specific strategies that are guided by international standards and in partnership with leading nongovernmental organizations.

Our Program: Sands ECO360

Our responsibility to the planet is as important to us as our commitment to the comfort and well-being of our guests and Team Members. Sands ECO360 works to minimize our environmental impact and reflects our vision to lead the way in sustainable building development and resort operations through three key initiatives.

Building Design and Development

Sustainability is built into our resorts from start to finish. We begin with smart design and integrate technology to reduce future impact in operations. Throughout construction, we implement practices that preserve resources and mitigate harm to the local ecology. Our approach incorporates sustainability into the entirety of our buildings’ life cycles.

Resort Management and Operations

The heart of our environmental strategy focuses on establishing responsible practices that drive efficiency. We accomplish this objective by continually enhancing our processes, incorporating the latest technologies and leveraging sustainability best practices to improve performance, all with seamless integration to ensure an exceptional guest experience.

Meetings, Events and Entertainment

Shaping modern meetings, events and entertainment offerings means curating experiences with environmental responsibility, wellness and community engagement in mind. Our holistic approach integrates these principles into planning and execution to ensure we foster sustainability every step of the way.
