Team Members Join Together to Provide Hunger Relief at First Annual Sands Cares Food Kit build

On May 27, Sands hosted the first annual Sands Cares Food Kit Build, a global initiative held at Sands properties in Macao and Singapore to support local hunger relief efforts. Hundreds of Sands Team Members and volunteers joined together to assemble nearly 9,000 kits containing food staples for distribution to people facing hardship in Sands’ local communities.

In Singapore, more than 450 Marina Bay Sands Team Members gathered at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre to create 6,000 food kits for The Food Bank Singapore, which will distribute food supplies to vulnerable seniors, families and migrant workers. In addition, Marina Bay Sands Team Members volunteered as drivers to deliver 500 food kits to five beneficiary centers in Singapore.

In Macao, nearly 300 Sands China Team Members gathered at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo to build 2,600 hunger relief food kits for Caritas Macau, which will distribute supplies to beneficiaries including seniors and families facing financial difficulties or pay cuts due to the pandemic. Team Members also assisted with distribution to people in need.

“Addressing hunger relief and supporting disadvantaged people are key tenets of our global Sands Cares community engagement program,” said Ron Reese, senior vice president of global communications and corporate affairs, who spearheads corporate responsibility for the company. “We have a number of ways in which we address food instability for people in need in our regions, from repurposing surplus food at our properties to engaging with food relief and social services organizations to support their initiatives. The Sands Cares Food Kit Build now unites our Team Members around the world with the common goal of providing food relief to meet the needs of the vulnerable in our local communities.”

The new Sands Cares Food Kit Build is the third global Sands Cares initiative along with the Sands Cares Global Hygiene Kit Build with Clean the World and the Sands Cares Accelerator, a program that helps advance nonprofit organizations to achieve greater community impact. Together, these programs unify Sands properties in addressing key priorities such as food security, disaster response and preparedness, and nonprofit capacity building to better meet the needs of Sands communities around the world.
